The Quijada Lab is dedicated to understanding cell–cell interactions during coronary vascular development, with the goal of promoting angiogenesis and reducing cardiac fibrosis in the adult ischemic heart.

To accomplish this, we employ advanced fluorescent lineage-tracing techniques, conditional knockout mouse models, single-cell transcriptomics, and clinically relevant adeno-associated virus–based delivery approaches.

How do epicardial cells communicate with the coronary vasculature during embryonic development and following myocardial ischemia?

Are embryonic angiogenic factors expressed by cells in the postnatal heart?

How does pericyte maintaining vascular function in the heart?
